Recipe: Chicken Pie with Onion and Thyme



Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, diced
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • A pinch of salt and black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
    • Gradually add olive oil and warm water, kneading until a smooth and elastic dough forms.
    • Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • Heat the butter in a skillet, then sauté the onions until soft and golden.
    • Add the cooked chicken, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Assemble the Pie:

    • Roll out half the dough and place it in a greased baking tray.
    • Spread the chicken and onion mixture evenly over the dough.
    • If desired, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
    • Roll out the other half of the dough and place it over the filling. Seal the edges well.
  4. Bake:

    • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
    • Bake the pie for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
  5. Serve:

    • Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
