Recipe: Chinese-Style Orange Chicken



Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Oil for frying
Marinade:
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
Orange Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger (optional)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tbsp water
  • Zest of one orange (for added flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:

    • In a bowl, mix the chicken cubes with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, egg, and soy sauce.
    • Let the chicken marinate for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare Fried Chicken:

    • Mix the flour and cornstarch in a plate.
    • Coat the chicken pieces with the mixture and deep-fry in hot oil over medium heat until golden and crispy.
    • Drain on kitchen paper.
  3. Prepare the Orange Sauce:

    • In a skillet, mix orange juice, water, soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and ginger.
    • Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to boil.
    • Add the dissolved cornstarch and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
    • Stir in the orange zest.
  4. Combine Chicken with Sauce:

    • Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss until fully coated.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
