Recipe: Filo Pastry Pie with Garlic and Minced Meat



Ingredients:

  • 500g filo pastry
  • 2 cups cooked minced meat
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • A pinch of salt and black pepper
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • Heat the oil or butter in a pan, then add the onion and garlic. Sauté until golden.
    • Add the minced meat and cook thoroughly.
    • Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if desired. Set the filling aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Filo Layers:

    • Grease a baking tray with a bit of oil or butter.
    • Layer sheets of filo pastry in the tray, brushing each layer lightly with oil or butter.
    • Repeat for about 5 layers.
  3. Add the Filling:

    • Evenly spread the minced meat mixture over the filo layers.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the filling if using.
  4. Close the Pie:

    • Cover the filling with the remaining filo sheets, brushing each layer with oil or butter.
  5. Prepare the Topping Mixture:

    • In a bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour the mixture evenly over the pie.
  6. Bake:

    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Bake the pie for 25-30 minutes or until golden.
  7. Serve:

    • Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
