Recipe: Filo Pastry Pie with Garlic and Minced Meat
Ingredients:
- 500g filo pastry
- 2 cups cooked minced meat
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- A pinch of salt and black pepper
- A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:

Prepare the Filling:
- Heat the oil or butter in a pan, then add the onion and garlic. Sauté until golden.
- Add the minced meat and cook thoroughly.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if desired. Set the filling aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Filo Layers:
- Grease a baking tray with a bit of oil or butter.
- Layer sheets of filo pastry in the tray, brushing each layer lightly with oil or butter.
- Repeat for about 5 layers.

Add the Filling:
- Evenly spread the minced meat mixture over the filo layers.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the filling if using.

Close the Pie:
- Cover the filling with the remaining filo sheets, brushing each layer with oil or butter.

Prepare the Topping Mixture:
- In a bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour the mixture evenly over the pie.

- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake the pie for 25-30 minutes or until golden.

- Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
