Recipe: Meatball Sandwich with Mozzarella



Ingredients:

  • 500g ground meat (beef or lamb)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning or thyme
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (optional)
  • 4 sandwich rolls (your preferred type)
  • Oil for frying or baking

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:

    • In a large bowl, mix the ground meat with breadcrumbs, egg, shredded mozzarella, parsley, onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning or thyme.
    • Shape the mixture into small meatballs about the size of a golf ball.
  2. Fry or Bake the Meatballs:

    • For frying: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the meatballs until golden brown and fully cooked inside.
    • For baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F), place the meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes or until fully cooked.
  3. Prepare the Sandwich:

    • Toast the sandwich rolls in a skillet or oven until crispy.
    • If using tomato sauce, spread a thin layer on each slice of bread.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Place 2-3 meatballs in each roll.
    • Optionally, add more shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the meatballs.
    • Cover with the other slice of bread and serve warm.
